Please stop saying veganism is elitist or privileged.
Look at how small the “other meat” section is in most countries. You guys are calling Veganism restrictive and losing it over being asked to cut out primarily three types of meat and few other main types of animal products.
Meat and animal products aren’t actually cheap either; it’s only barely affordable because we shovel massive subsidies into them, not because they’re low on resources and efficient to produce on a mass scale. Think about how much better off everyone would be plant based diets were even cheaper than they already are.
But also can we look at the ones with the lowest rates of meat consumption and talk about how veganism isn’t a white, privileged, trendy thing?
Officials in Georgia’s Habersham County are refusing to pay for the mounting medical expenses of a toddler seriously injured by a flash grenade after a failed SWAT team raid earlier this year.
Bounkham ‘Bou Bou’ Phonesavanh was just 19 months old when a Habersham SWAT team initiated a no-knock warrant at his family’s home at around 3 a.m. on May 28. Bou Bou was asleep in his crib at the time, surrounded by his family and three sisters. The toddler was severely injured when SWAT team officers broke through the house’s door and threw a flashbang grenade that ultimately landed in the Bou Bou’s crib.
All it takes is one event to set a precedent. If Darren Wilson is arrested for, charged with, and convicted of the murder of Michael Brown, then that means ALL cops can be held accountable for their actions. It means the people can ALWAYS rise up and fight back against police brutality.
That’s what the cops and National Guard in Ferguson is fighting against. They don’t want this standard to be set.
